BIOGRAPHY
Ans Mezas-Hummelink is a Dutch artist who moved to Curaçao in 1981 and considers the island her second home. A draftsperson at heart, she is known for her accomplished use of colored pencil. Her work includes portraits in black and white and color, stamp designs, and series that explore the distinctiveness of the human body through carefully selected fragments. For Mezas-Hummelink, a work is complete only when it is technically refined and conveys the intended feeling.
She also creates jewelry in zinc, Perspex, and silver. In her metalwork, she uses etching resist and embraces the unpredictable effects of corrosive substances on metal, allowing unexpected textures to emerge. Her Perspex rings and bracelets explore the beauty of refracted light. Across her practice, precision and control coexist with a sense of movement.
