BIOGRAPHY
Godelieve Smulders is a visual artist and activist based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Trained as a sculptor, she also works in painting and drawing. Her practice ranges from large-scale public art and internet projects to studio works, and is guided by a search for lightness, dynamism and vitality. Using mixed two- and three-dimensional techniques, she works with pigment, wood, stone, clay, bronze, epoxy and natural materials to create works that are both fragile and powerful. Time, craftsmanship and repetition play a central role in her process. Her work can be found in museums, public spaces and private collections.
