BIOGRAPHY

Ras Mosera is one of Saint Martin’s most celebrated artists. Born in Saint Lucia, he left his homeland and settled on the higher slopes of French Quarter in Saint Martin. His name derives from Moseroth, the biblical mountain associated with the Israelites’ fortieth station after leaving Egypt.
Mosera’s distinctive visual language foreground’s Caribbean identity and the region’s intersection of European and African cultures. His work gives prominence to Afro-Caribbean traditions while avoiding cliché. Working in an expressionist mode, he combines form and color to create a highly personal yet accessible language in which the boundary between dream and reality becomes fluid.
A painter and musician, Mosera often depicts women and musicians. He is also the owner of Axum Art Café in Philipsburg. Closely attentive to social conditions, he seeks to express them through both art and music, creating work intended to provoke reflection rather than offer only decorative pleasure.
