BIOGRAPHY

Roald ‘Ati’ Schotborgh (1933–2011) was a Curaçao-based, self-taught artist. He mastered his techniques by studying and copying the old masters and worked in oil pastel, watercolor, charcoal, and ink. He retired from the Finance Department in 1982 with the rank of Deputy Head. In 1990, he opened “Upstairs Downstairs,” a business offering framing services. In 1970, he joined the board of the Curaçaosch Museum, where he served as chairman from 1981 to 1991. In that role, he organized “Konsierto di Wals,” a musical evening at Centro Pro Arte featuring Robert Rojer and Padú Lampe. The event marked the first time the Curaçao waltz was presented at concert level. Schotborgh painted portraits of former directors of the Central Bank of the Netherlands Antilles and restored portraits of the Governors in the Governor’s Palace.
